Broadoak students take new GCSE in their stride!
Staff, students and governors at Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College are thrilled with their 2017 GCSE results. As has been well documented this year heralded the new ‘tougher’ GCSEs, and the College is particularly pleased that 61% of our students achieved the new benchmark ‘pass’ in Maths and 69% in English.
The number of students gaining top grades across all subjects was very encouraging with almost 40% of the year group achieving A*/A grades. Results in Further Maths, Triple Science, Ethics and Philosophy, and Drama were outstanding.
Broadoak College values achievement at all levels and we are delighted with the excellent progress the students have made since joining us. A great many of our students achieved their challenging targets, which means a high number of students have achieved their personal best!
Ms Pritchard, Headteacher, added, "We are really pleased with these provisional results which reflect the hard work of our students and staff, and the support of our parents and carers. We have introduced some very structured testing and monitoring regimes, which has ensured that every student understands exactly where they need to be so they can reach their full potential. We have also adapted some of the learning models from our More Able and Talented programme and again this has added great value across the whole curriculum. I would like to thank all the students and their families for all their support and commitment and wish them well as they say goodbye!”
But the real test is the reaction of the pupils who came in to pick up their results. And there were many happy pupils and parents at the College today.
Some of Broadoak’s high achievers include; Anju Anil who achieved 9 A*/A, Maisie Thomas = 8 A*/A grades, Henry Cox = 8 A*/A grades. Jodie Filer, Rebecca James and Caitlin Keohane all achieved 7 A*/A grades. Congratulations to them.
Broadoak College is a very popular, oversubscribed school for 11-16 year olds; the majority of students move on to either Weston or Bridgwater Colleges after leaving Broadoak at the end of Year 11.
The College’s Open Evening is on Thursday 28th September from 6.30pm.
