About Broadoak

Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College is a successful, vibrant and a popular school where achievement and relationships are vitally important, and where all students are valued as individuals. Broadoak is currently a "stand alone" academy, and is a comprehensive, co-educational school for 11-16 year olds. The College prides itself with its modern facilities, particularly for ICT including our own Internet Café and the extensive use of tablets to enhance students’ methods of learning. 2015 saw the opening of a new state of the art floodlit Artificial Turf Pitch for all year round use, new tennis courts which are also designed for netball and basketball.

Over the past few years Broadoak has seen the development of a very successful More Able & Talented programme across the whole curriculum.  We pride ourselves on our provision for more able and talented students, both inside and outside the classroom. This high quality provision begins even before students enrol at the school! This year we offered excellence days for Year 5 and 6 students from our partner primary schools in both English and maths, focusing on understanding Shakespeare and problem solving skills.

Staff and Governors at Broadoak College were delighted with the feedback from our November 2012 Ofsted inspection. The College was judged as “Good” in all categories. The report praises the students’ achievements and in particular the excellent progress they make whilst at the school gaining “better than expected examination results.”

The Ofsted team recognised the very good behaviour at the school and the students’ high levels of attendance. The Inspector commented “The students feel safe, valued and respected and they enjoy the extensive range of activities.”The Governors’ work and commitment, led by Chair of Governors John Brock, were also highlighted “The governing body is most supportive. Governors know the school well. They are fully involved in the life of the school and know its strengths and where improvements are needed.”

Young people are at the very heart of the College not only do we value academic performance, but we also believe that students should enjoy their time at school and achieve across a whole range of areas. We provide a happy and safe environment within which students can experience opportunities beyond the classroom so that they can become engaged, independent learners and responsible and confident adults. Most importantly, our students are supported in making the right choices regarding their qualifications. This starts when students select their GCSE subjects in Year 9, but also in Year 11 when deciding on post-16 pathways. As part of this, we offer university trips, including a residential trip to Cambridge University as well as visits to Bridgwater and Weston College.
