Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College opened its doors for its annual Open Evening on Thursday 28th September to showcase all the best Broadoak has to offer.
Every faculty pulled out all the stops to make the evening as informative and enjoyable as possible. In Mathematics there were exciting puzzles and games, English had a time machine theme visiting literature though the ages, a poetry pedestal, story writing and some Dickens bah-humbugs!
Visitors got to taste freshly squeezed apple juice, make their own torch, create their own masterpiece in creative arts and dress up for the fun photo booth in foreign languages. Science faulty is always popular with lots of different experiments to capture the imagination of our young guests, with fire bubbles, rockets and heart dissection. The Geography classroom was transformed into a Disaster Zone with sound, lighting and smoke effects to give you the atmosphere of a genuine disaster.
The talents of the students were on display with student pianists playing the grand piano throughout the evening as well as a short scene from this year’s Performing Arts production of The Wiz.
Our Head Girl and Head Boy, Maddie and Dylan led the proceedings in the hall with a wonderful speech full of their personal reflections of the opportunities they have enjoyed at Broadoak and our new Head Teacher Ms McGillycuddy delivered a speech highlighting her vision for the future of the school.
Visiting year 6 children and their families were greatly impressed by the professionalism presented and the outstanding quality of the teaching and learning on display.
“We are so proud of our young people and the talent and skill on display this evening. They were wonderful ambassadors for themselves, us and their families. I had the joy of receiving many compliments on their behalf and receiving great feedback from parents who noted there was a ‘real buzz about learning’ throughout the college. We hope many people will take the opportunity to visit us on our Open Mornings and see for themselves why Broadoak should be the proud, first choice of this community”, commented Ms McGillycuddy.
