What we do

Governors have overall responsibility for the effectiveness and improvement of
Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College.

Governors ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction, holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the College and its pupils.

They are responsible for setting the overall direction of the College and not the day-to-day running which is the responsibility of the Headteacher and the College staff.

Governors oversee the financial performance of the College making sure its money is well spent.

How we do it

The Full Governing Body meets 4 times a year but much of our work is done through 4 Committees whose roles are defined by their Terms of Reference.  All Governors are members of at least one Committee. Most meetings take place at 6.00 p.m. and usually last for about 90 minutes.

The Teaching & Learning Committee oversees the curriculum, its delivery and pupil attainment.
The Staff & Student Committee looks after all matters concerned with staffing and students.
The Finance & Premises Committee has responsibility for the budget being correctly managed and spent, and the maintenance and safety of the buildings.

The Pay Committee manages all matters relating to staff remuneration
Agendas and minutes for all meetings are the responsibility of the Clerk to the Governors.

How you can join us

There are no special qualifications for becoming a governor other than having the interest of Broadoak College and education at heart.

You may already have skills and/or experience in:

Strategic Planning, Decision making, Project management, Human resources, Communications, Marketing, Law, ICT, Buildings and Maintenance,  Statistics, Theories and Methods of Teaching, and Key areas of the Curriculum such as Behaviour Management, Special Needs.

But in any case training is available at no charge to you. There is an excellent Induction Course for all new governors and an existing governor will act as your buddy or mentor.  We also undertake training as a group and there are always specialist courses available reflecting the current trends and needs.
